The former Great British Bake Off host appeared on the Charity marathon with Graham Norton and introduced a special segment from Aston Merrygold.

As the former Strictly competitor’s section came to an end, Mel, 49, couldn’t help but slip in a little dig at Shirley, 57, after she sent the favourite home two weeks ago.

She joked: “It was nice to see Aston Merrygold again… Thanks Shirley.”

Viewers couldn’t help but notice the cheeky swipe, and flocked to Twitter to comment on Mel’s gag.

One posted: “Haha Mel got a dig in at Shirley.”

Another added: “Haha did Mel really throw a dig at Shirley over Aston? Haha.”

A third joked: “‘Thanks Shirley Ballas’ Screamed.”

A fourth commented: “‘Thank you Shirley Ballas’ OH MEL THAT ABSOLUTE SHADE!!!”

Earlier on Children In Need, the BBC shared an exclusive first-look at the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special.

As well, Peter Kay confirmed that his sitcom, Car Share would be coming back for a final season.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow night on BBC One at 6.45pm.
