The television mogul not once but twice expressed his unhappiness about the decision to have a double elimination, which saw Sam Black as well as Sean and Conor Price get the boot.
After it was announced the two acts were leaving, the distraught looking 58-year-old asked: “Whose idea was it to do a double elimination?”
It was then that host Dermot O’Leary shouted: “Yours!” as the unlucky contestants – one of which was in Simon’s group – stood around the stage.
The judge’s remarks came just minutes after he spoke out once again, following an original song by The Cutkelvins.
“It’s just occurred to me that we’ll lose two people tonight. I don’t know who agreed to that?” he stated.
Many took to Twitter to speak out, with one user writing: “What is Simon Cowell on about? ‘Who agreed to two acts going tonight?’ It’s his bl**dy show, ain’t it! #xfactor.”(sic)
Two others agreed: “If you didn’t agree to a double elimination Simon, who did… #xfactor,” and: “I don’t know who agreed to two acts going, says Simon. Think you do Cowell #XFactor.”
“Bit baffled that Simon claims he ‘didn’t agree’ to the double elimination… erm you’re the boss mate? I call bull [s***] #XFactor.”
Meanwhile, Simon also appeared to hit out at Little Mix, who are signed to his label Syco, after Sam chose to sing their hit Oops.
He told the 20-year-old: “Sam, that’s what I call a prawn cocktail. When I say a prawn cocktail, that’s not the main course or dessert, it’s just that little thing that you have before the big thing, which is fine…
“I get frustrated. I really like you, but the problem is that everything that happens around you has been done by other people. The choreography, the staging, the horrible song choice, the arrangement…”
The X Factor 2017 continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV.
