WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Hard Sun season one.

Will there be another season of Hard Sun?

The show kicked off last Saturday (January 6) at 9.35pm on BBC One.

Hard Sun season one was then made available in its entirety on the broadcaster’s video-on-demand service BBC iPlayer.

The show is also being aired on a weekly basis on BBC One at 9.35pm over the course of the next five weeks.

While the BBC hasn’t officially confirmed a second run, writer Neil Cross has expressed his desire for more Hard Sun.

Speaking to the Radio Times, he said admitted he had a “Stalinist five-year plan”.

He went on to say: “I didn’t want to give myself a way out and I haven’t.”

Cross teasingly added: “We end [series one] on a moment of revelation.”

What will happen in Hard Sun season 2?

Season one introduced viewers to the world of Hard Sun, which saw two police officers getting hold of a highly classified USB stick containing information about a huge government conspiracy.

The memory stick revealed that the world coming to an end in five years’ time as the sun moved closer towards the Earth and would eventually obliterate the planet – a similar concept to 1961 film The Day the Earth Caught Fire.

Season one ended with the revelation that the apocalypse was getting closer as the sun moved a lot nearer to the Earth.

It also conclusively proved that the Hard Sun conspiracy theory wasn’t a hoax after all and instead was a very real danger.

A follow up will deal will the fallout from the season one finale but also the ramifications of the sun now visibly closer to the Earth both environmentally and socially.

The ever-approaching Earth is also set to lead to further anarchy, which was touched on with conspiracy theorists committing acts of violence because they believed they had anything to lose.

Who will be in Hard Sun season 2?

Central leads Agyness Deyn will be back as the no-nonsense DI Elaine Renko and Jim Sturgess as DCI Charlie Hicks.

They are probably going to be joined by their fellow detectives DS George Mooney (Adrian Rawlins), DS Keith Greener (Owain Arthur) and DS Mishal Ali (Varade Sethu).

Jodi Macari is going to be returning as Elaine’s troubled and violent son Daniel Renko.

While her fate was uncertain, chief villain Grace Morrigan (Nikki Amuka-Bird) could be causing more terror or even switching sides in a second season.
