Britain’ Favourite Dogs: TV show to reveal which pooch is the nation’s top dog | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

A two-and-a-half hour prime-time show on Tuesday will see labradors and terriers pitched against labradoodles in ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Dog: Top 100.

There are 217 breeds in Britain plus thousands of combinations of cross breed, many of which are represented in this first-ever countdown of its kind.

The Sunday Express has been given exclusive access – but has agreed to keep the winners under wraps.

It is hosted by radio presenter Sara Cox, owner of malteses Dolly and Beano, and TV’s Ben Fogle, whose beloved black labrador is called Storm.

The results are based on a survey of 10,000 dog owners in co-operation with the RSPCA and insurer Pet Plan.

Geri Haliwell, Gok Wan, James Martin, Gabby Logan, Louis Smith and Michael Ball are among the stars who introduce us to their beloved canine friends.

Prince Harry even makes an appearance, coming face to face with an Invictus Games hero John Flint, from West Sussex, and the dog that helped him deal with his injuries.

The dog-a-thon gives each breed’s heritage, fascinating facts, key characteristics and personality traits.

New crossbreeds feature heavily, such as the chorky, sproodle, puggle, cavapoo, cockapoo and jorky.

The show also features Coronation Street dog Rover, really Cookie, a Jack Russell owned by the show’s Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald.

Another TV star dog is Luna, a labradoodle who is an occasional guest on ITV’s Good Morning with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Britain’s Favourite Dogs: Top 100, ITV, Tuesday, 7.30pm.
