The 26-year-old shared an adorable photo of himself kissing his two-year-old daughter Ella good night yesterday, when the incident occurred.
Dan, who shares the little one with EastEnders actress Jacqueline Jossa, was marking the eve of his daughter’s third birthday.
“Just put my little princess to bed,” he wrote. “Can’t believe she’s 3 tomorrow! So crazy how grown up she’s getting. Last night of being 2! Love you so much darling.”
But, the father-of-two, who is expecting his second child with Jacqueline, was soon trolled for the snap which showed him kissing the tot on the lips.
The cruel comment, which was soon deleted, branded the capture a “bit inappropriate”.
Outraged fans soon shared their reactions online, with one user writing: “Inappropriate what is wrong with people, please don’t EVER have kids if you think this is inappropriate you weird deluded people! This is a beautiful picture of a dad and his daughter! Happy Birthday Ella.”
“There is nothing inappropriate with this picture!! Simply a dad kissing his little girl good night,” wrote a second supporter.
A third fan leapt to the star’s defence, adding: “Beautiful, I remember my dad always showering me with kisses and lots of love. A beautiful memory I treasure (I am 71!!!)”.
But, after worrying that she had been forgotten about on the romantic occasion, she revealed that the roses had actually been intended for her.
Expressing her delight at the surprise delivery, the 25-year-old exclaimed: “Daniel actually got me roses!”
The 25-year-old married Dan back in June last year, and announced that they were expecting their second child together last month.
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
