Harry Anderson dead: Night Court and It actor found dead at North Carolina home aged 65 | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV


The American actor was found dead at his home in Asheville, North Carolina, yesterday, police say.

The performer passed away aged 65, according to IMDB.

TMZ were told by Harry’s son Dashiell Anderson, that he had died of natural causes.

An Asheville police spokesperson Christina Hallingse told The Hollywood Reporter: “This morning at 6.41 am, the Asheville Police Department responded to the home of actor Harry Anderson where he was found deceased.

“No foul play is suspected.”

Express.co.uk has been unable to contact a representative for Harry Anderson asking for comment.

The comedian and magician made eight appearances on American late-night TV show Saturday Night Live.

Harry was born on October 14, 1952 in Newport, Rhode Island.

The star leaves behind wife Elizabeth Morgan, who he wed back in 2000, and his two children.

Devastated celebrities and fans flocked to Twitter to pay tribute to the late actor.

Night Court actress Markie Post, who worked alongside the star, wrote: “I am devastated. I’ll talk about you later, Harry, but for now, I’m devastated.”

Harry’s former co-star Marsha Warfield penned on Instagram: “Rest in peace, Harry. We miss you already. I tip my hat to you, my friend.”

Actor Neil Patrick Harris also honoured the memory of the late star, in a post shared with his 27.7 million Twitter followers.

“Stunned by the passing of Harry Anderson, one of my comedy and magic inspirations growing up,” he penned. “We became friendly over the years – he worked at the @MagicCastle_AMA and recently sold me a handful of great magic memorabilia. My sincere condolences to his family. #RIP.”

One fan wrote: “RIP Harry Anderson. You were a huge inspiration to me.”

Another penned: “Harry Anderson was one of my all-time favorites. He was a class act, so funny and kind, and I’ll miss him so much. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”(sic)

“I found out about Night Court through my dad, and it quickly became a favorite thanks to Harry Anderson. RIP Judge Harry Stone, you will be missed. Thanks for all the magic, and the laughs.”(sic)

The actor, who also appeared in America show Cheers, was best known for appearing in Night Court – as well as starring as Richie Tozier in the 1990 miniseries It.

The father-of-two married twice, first to Leslie Pollack back in 1997 – but the pair divorced 22 years later.

In 2000, the star tied the knot with wife Elizabeth, and the couple later moved from New Orleans to Asheville, North Carolina.
