The Walking Dead season 9 spoilers: Rick Grimes set to battle a MUTINY? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Last night saw Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) putting an end to the Saviors once and for all in The Walking Dead season eight finale.

After Eugene’s (Josh McDermitt) ingenious plan to take out the rival group without any deaths, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) entered into a fierce battle against Rick.

Determined to end the bloodshed, Rick slit Negan’s throat.

But he quickly changed his mind, and saved the tyrant’s life.

He decided to lock Negan up in a cell to rot – but Rick didn’t consider how his team mates may react to this.

Unfortunately for Rick, Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) was seriously unhappy.

Learning about Negan’s fate, she screamed at him: “He can’t live!”

Furious, she later broke the news to Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Jesus (Tom Payne).

In a vicious fervour she hinted: “We’re going to bide our time, wait for our moment and then we’re going to show him.”

Considering Negan was the person to bash her husband Glenn Rhee’s (Steven Yuen) head in with his baseball bat, it’s no wonder she’s angry about the decision to keep him alive.

But could Maggie’s anger cause her to take Rick on next season?

Showrunner Scott Gimple discussed Maggie’s pathos in The Talking Dead after the finale aired last night.

He said: “It looks like that to me. Lauren [Cohan] is so amazing in that scene. She’s full Maggie Corleone.

“Jesus, you know, he would not have killed the surrendering Saviours, but he’s not Morgan.

“Like, he could kill Negan. That certainly isn’t off the menu for Jesus.”

Scott also spoke about the conflicts that may arise in season nine, revealing that characters will be “facing different problems with each other.”

Scott’s comments follow executive producer Greg Nicotero’s comments about Morgan actor Lennie James.

He spoke about working with Lennie for the first time, saying: “He showed up on set and was looking out on set at his wife who is a walker and he’s just got tears streaming down his face.

“He’s wiping his eyes and I said to him: ‘That’s the moment I knew The Walking Dead was something special.’”

The Walking Dead is expected to return in October 2018.
